Linus C. Stampfl, age 80, died on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 in Madison. He was born on October 24, 1936 in Madison, son of Charles and Beatrice (Faust) Stampfl. Linus graduated from Verona High School in 1954.

He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Helene Steinhorst on October 18, 1969 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Verona.

Linus held several jobs throughout the years including, 20 years at Pitney-Bowes in Madison. He also owned Stampfl's Short Stop Inn in Verona and most recently enjoyed driving school bus for the Verona Schools.

Linus was a player, manager and commissioner for the Home Talent Baseball League for many years. He also coached youth baseball and was an avid sports fan, loving all different sports. Spending time with his buddies brought him great joy.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helene; his children: Randy (Mary Jo) Stampfl and Amanda (Corey) Leister; grandchildren, Camden and Braeden Stampfl and RaeAnne and Austin Leister; sister, Diane (Gary) Lease; brothers, Richard (Ruth) and Chuck (Judy) Stampfl; sister-in-law, Fay Rentmeester and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dog, Bogey.
