George Plant, Pioneer Resident Called by Death
George Plant, well known pioneer of Bracken district, passed away in Climax hospital on November 22, at the age of 72 years and seven months. He had been a patient in hospital since October 13th.
Born in Staffordshire, England, on April 17, 1882, he came to Ontario in August 1905. He returned to England in 1922 where on August 17, 1922, he married Miss Mabel Hazelwood. Born to this union was one son, Robert. He was predeceased by two brothers, Tom and Bill, and two sisters, Mary and Alice.
In October of 1910, he came to Saskatchewan and filed a homestead. In the spring of 1911, he came to live on the homestead and there he remained, to make his home and many friends, who now mourn his passing.
An ardent gardener and lover of flowers and trees, his home was a beauty spot and many people came to see his peonies and fruit trees when in bloom. It was a cause of great sorrow when ill health forced him to give up this work, he found so much pleasure in. The trees and flowers he planted are a living memorial to him.
Funeral services in which the community paid their last respects were held in Bracken church with the Rev Dunstan Pasterfield, Anglican minister, officiating. Many beautiful flowers banked the casket. The hymns, Near the Cross and Abide with Me were sung by the congregation. Pallbearers were old friends: Jim Wright, Jack McLennan, Joseph Talbot, Thomas Stuart ands James Moran. Interment was in Bracken cemetery. We extend our sympathy to the mourners, his wife and son.
