George W. Hornaday, 79, of Avon, beloved husband of Diane (Smith) Hornaday, passed ad astra Sunday, February 19, 2017, surrounded by his family.

Born in North Manchester, IN, son of the late George Otho and Edith (Bechtold) Hornaday, he was raised in IN, graduated from Culver Military Academy, and received his BS from Georgia Institute of Technology where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He was the honor cadet serving in the US Coast Guard in Groton, CT and then joined the Travelers Insurance Co in 1963, retiring as a Corporate Secretary in 1992. He did consulting work in retirement. He and Diane raised their family in Avon since 1966 where he was on BSA Troop 274's troop committee serving as treasurer for many years. He loved gardening at his home and at his church, Memorial United Methodist Church in Avon.

Besides his wife of 54 years, Diane; he leaves a son George Randal Hornaday of New Britain; a daughter Jessica H. Self and her husband Peter of Holly Springs, NC; two grandchildren Mary Katelyn and Julia Diane Self.

His family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, from 5-8 pm at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon. The funeral service will be Saturday, February 25, 2017, 10 am at Memorial United Methodist Church, 867 West Avon Rd. Avon. The Rev. Joseph Piccirillo, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in West Avon Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Memorial United Methodist Church.
