JOHN A. PITALE , 66, of Charlotte, N.C., and formerly of Hammonton, died Wednesday at his home here.
Dr. Pitale was a graduate of Brown Prep School. He studied at Sorbonne University in Paris and also attended St. Joseph College in Montreal.
He received his doctorate in philosophy from Fordham University where he also taught as a professor. Most recently, he taught Philosophy at the University of North Carolina.

He was the owner and operator of the Hammonton News from 1950-1958, and an officer for Highway Transportation and Trucking Co. in Hammonton. He was also the director of several art galleries in Manhattan, N.Y., and the producer and director of Mill Playhouse in Sweetwater.

Born in Hammonton, he traveled through Europe most of his life.

Surviving are a brother, Frank of Juniper, Fla.; and a sister, Rita Grace Gallagher of Hammonton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Hammonton. Burial is in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Hammonton. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Sunday at the Marinella Funeral Home, 102 N. Third St., Hammonton.
