David A. Ayers, 73, of Columbia, died Thursday, March 25, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at Asbury United Methodist Church, Leesburg Road exit from Hwy. 77, with the Rev. Gene Feagin officiating. A private interment will take place at a later time. Mr. Ayers was born in St. Matthews, a son of the late Frank Ayers and Annie Blanch Inabinet Ayers. He has been a resident of Columbia since 1969, having retired as a master sergeant from the South Carolina National Guard and a State Police lieutenant with South Carolina Employment Security Commission. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the Asbury Men's Club. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth A. Bozard and Lucille A. McIver; brothers, William Ayers, Raymond Ayers, and Tom Ayers. Survivors include his spouse of 51 years, Mary Ann Miller Ayers; daughter, Debbie A. Beall (Gene) of Columbia; brothers, Ralph Ayers of Lexington, and Harvey Floyd Ayers of Durham, N.C.; granddaughters, Marlee and Lyndie Beall. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 2 p.m. at the church and immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Memorials may be made to Asbury Building and Improvement Fund, 1005 Asbury Drive, Columbia, SC 29209.
