He was born February 16, 1936 in St. Nazianz, son of the late Isadore and Lorena (Schuler) Meyer. Leonard attended St. Isidore Catholic School, Osman, and Attended Kiel High School. He served in the United States Army Reserves from 1961 until 1967. On May 11, 1957, Leonard married the former Marjorie Sippel at St. Fridolin’s Parish, Glenbeulah. He worked various construction jobs before becoming the owner of Meyer’s Dinner Club and Meyer’s Renuair Filter Cleaning. Leonard was a member of the Tavern League of Wisconsin 6th District State Director Manitowoc County Tavern League of which he held various offices. He was the Village Board Trustee for 12 years, and was a 25 year member of the St. Nazianz Volunteer Fire Department. Leonard also held memberships in the St. Nazianz Lions Club, American Legion - Wagner, Eberle, Sukowaty Post 477, Kiel Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, St. Nazianz Housing Committee, and St. Nazianz Growth. Awards that he has accepted include the 1983 Golden Butterknife Award (Meyer’s Dinner Club), 1996-1997 Valders High School Cooperative Vocational Education Appreciation Award, 2004-2005 Lions International Certificate of Appreciation Award in recognition of distinguished achievements in leadership and service; and the 2012 Lions Club International 50 year Certificate. Leonard enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, playing cards, and watching Packer and Brewer games with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years: Marge; six sons and five daughters-in-law: Rick & LeeAnn Meyer and their children: Alex & Heidi, Francis Creek; Bob Meyer, De Pere, Terry and Kristi Meyer and their children: Austin, Taylor and Cole, Plymouth, Tom & Cheri Meyer, Kiel, and their daughter: Lindsey & Cory Ciha, Milwaukee, Randy & Ann Meyer and their children: Amber, Autumn and Chloe, New Holstein; and Steve & Sarabeth Meyer and their children: Lucian, Eva & Reese, Manitowoc; four sisters and brothers-in-law: Delores Boeckman, Manitowoc, Dorothy & Ival Grotegut, Newton, Clementine Steinhardt, Plymouth, and Virginia & Rich Freeze, Plymouth; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Donald & Sharron Meyer, Texas, Charles & Judy Meyer, Plymouth, Paul Meyer, St. Nazianz; and two sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law: Anna Marie Daun, New Holstein, and Bernadine & Jim Feiber, West Bend. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He is preceded in death by his parents: Isadore and Lorena (Schuler) Meyer; brothers: Victor, Harold, Gilbert, Joseph and Norman; sisters: Theresa Waack and Luella Mahloch; brothers-in-law: Earl Holschbach, Robert Boeckman, Jack Steinhardt, Leroy Waack, and Allen Mahloch; sisters-in-law: Rita Meyer and Kathy Meyer; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Sylvester & Romilda (Mueller) Sippel; brothers-in-law: Severin Daun and Vincent Sippel; and sisters-in-law: Frances Sippel & Dorothy Sippel.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Patrick Nelson, SDS. Leonard will be laid to rest at Knollwood Mausoleum, Town of Kossuth.
