After a beautiful life, Barbara Hunter Powers has joined family and friends in Heaven. She passed peacefully from this earth on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, having lived 84 years in the service of our Lord. She worshiped in the Baptist faith. Her early years were spent at the Harmon Freewill Baptist Church near Grundy, Va. and for the last few decades faithfully attended and supported the Euclid Avenue Baptist Church in Bristol, Va. She attended college at Bluefield State and Carson Newman. She was a much loved elementary school teacher in the Buchanan County and Washington County School systems. She retired in 1975.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Beatrice Moody Hunter; her husband, Jack Powers; a son, Johnny Powers; and grandparents, George H. Moody and Lettie Blaylock Moody.

She is survived by a daughter, Lee Ann Powers Baxter, Franklin, Tennessee; two grandsons; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A family and friends celebration of her life will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at Blevins Funeral Home, 417 Lee Street, Bristol, Va.

A private burial service will be held at Temple Hill Cemetery, Castlewood, Va.
