BYERS SR. – William D., 'Pops', 82, Johnstown, went to be with the Lord on January 30, 2017, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born September 15, 1934 in Davidsville, son of the late Harry and Annie (Kauffman) Byers. Preceded in death by brother, Boyd Byers and a great-granddaughter. Survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley M. (Ribblett) Byers; children, Kim Grove, married to Ed, Johnstown; Douglas Byers, married to Mary Kay (Troyan), Leesburg, VA; Lisa Byers, and boyfriend, Vince Appley, Johnstown; Dennis Byers, married to Tricia (Wentz), Johnstown; William D. Byers Jr. and girlfriend, Kelly McCune, Johnstown; grandchildren, Annie Smith, married toMatthew; EJ Grove, married to Alexa (Piper); Willy Byers; Kayla and Logan Byers; Eric, Matthew, andMichael Byers; Samantha Vivis, and fianc, Nick Mackanick, and Shane McCune; great grandchildren, Lexi and Sophie Smith; Mayson Piper, and one on the way; sisters, Anna Harker, Davidsville; and Esther Hunter, Windber; numerous nieces and nephews and his best buddy, his dog, 'Lucky'. Bill was retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp. and was a U.S. Army Veteran who was very proud to have served our country. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandpap. He enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and sitting on his front porch, smoking his pipe, and talking to his neighbors. A special thanks to Windber Hospice and to all the nurses who took care of him. Friends received 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. 1521 Frankstown Rd. where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jason Graffius, officiating. Committal Headrick Union Cemetery with military honors by VFW Menoher Post 155 Ritual Team. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Windber Hospice in memory of Bill. Arrangements in care of Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. 'Exclusive Provider of Veterans and Family Memorial Care.
