Orville H. Beckmann
U.S. Veteran
Orville H. Beckmann, 88, of Kiel, passed away Sunday morning February 26, 2017 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice with his wife and family at his side. He was born August 12, 1928 in Kiel, son of the late Roland & Elsie (Rodewald) Beckmann. Orv attended Kiel Schools and was a 1946 graduate of Kiel High School. He continued his education at Mission House College (Lakeland University) after graduation.

Orv was a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army as a truck and equipment mechanic from 1951 until 1953. On October 15, 1955, he was united in marriage to Frances Keller at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Rectory in Kiel, WI.

As a child, Orv grew up in Kiel with his brother Eugene. He learned to work on cars from his father, Roland, and his uncle, Raymond. They owned the gas and service station, Beckmann Brothers Pontiac Sales and Service, on Fremont St. in Kiel. Orv not only learned how to work on cars from an early age, he learned the business first hand. He went on to work at Schappe Pontiac & Ahrens Oldsmobile in Madison, and Frank Bernard Oldsmobile and Rodewald Buick in Sheboygan. His integrity, honesty, attention to detail, and work ethic, were values he exemplified in his working career, as well as in his life. After retirement he worked part-time for Nigrelli Systems and Hennings Cheese.

Orv was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel. He was an active member of Kiel VFW Post #6707, where he served on many committees and helped plan many VFW events. He also kept busy as a volunteer driver for the Kiel Senior Citizens. Orville loved taking walks with his wife Fran, playing cards and dominoes with friends, and taking his yearly trips to Mesa, AZ. He also enjoyed working outdoors and going dancing with Fran. So much enjoyment came from the time he spent on Cedar Lake with family and friends. He loved their Cedar Lake (cottage) home, which was his pride and joy for many years. His children and grandchildren will cherish the many memories of pontoon rides, water-skiing, and get-togethers with family and friends at the lake.

Survivors include his wife Fran of Kiel, his children; Carol Beckmann of Phoenix, AZ, Jeff (Kim) Beckmann of Madison, Julie Beckmann of Austin, TX, Mark Beckmann of Sheboygan, Debbie (Rick) Hansen of Howards Grove, Kim (Jeff) Irish of Sheboygan, and Steve (Lucinda) Beckmann of Madison. Orv was a proud grandpa to 19 grandchildren; Callie Gardunio, Jeffrey (Annie) Beckmann, Stephanie (Bill) Topel, Ryan Beckmann, Jonathon Witte, Johanna Beckmann, Katie (Tim) Popp, Jennifer Beckmann, Jessica (Eric) Luecke, Jordan Gollhardt, Ryan (Rhiannon) Hansen, Nicole (Brad) Schmitz, Sky Sangabriel, Mellisa (Ryan) Herlache, Rachel Irish , Brenda Irish, Nicholas & Morgan Beckmann. He is further survived by 15 great grandchildren; Madison, Logan, Ava, Khloe, Kaiya, Alayna, Aubrey, Hailey, Autumn, Hudson, Avery, Lluvia, Emelia and Ezekial, with one great grandchild on the way. Orv is also survived by a brother, Eugene Beckmann of Sun Lakes, AZ and sister-in-law Evelyn Keller.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step mother Verna (Casper) Beckmann, granddaughter Kristin Beckmann, great grandson Dylan DePetro, and sister-in-law Barbara Beckmann.

Funeral Services for Orv will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday March 6, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church (387 Cemetery Rd) with Pastor David Laabs officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Cremation has taken place, and a burial will follow at a later date in the Rockville Cemetery, Town of Schleswig. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for VFW Post #6707, Kiel, and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.

Orv's family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Atrium Post Acute Care in New Holstein, and a very special thank you to the amazing staff at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for all their care and compassion.
