Dennis R. Bailey, 63, of Du Quoin, passed away peacefully at 1:14 P.M., Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Dennis had been a heavy equipment operator for the coal mines. He had worked for twenty-six years at Consol #2 and #4 mines. Dennis was owner and operator of Bailey Excavating. He was a heavy equipment hauler for Teamsters. He was a member of the UMW of A and Teamsters. Dennis was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid deer hunter and outdoorsman.

His family, including his children and grandchildren, were a very important part of his life.

He was born September 15, 1953 at Evansville, IN, the son of Doyle and Hazel C. (Hopper) Bailey.

He married Brenda Powless on April 6, 1990 at Paducah, KY and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, four children - Gretchen James and husband Frank of Du Quoin, Dana Woosley and husband Paul of Loveland, OH, Laurie Bell and husband Sean of Camarillo, CA and Carry Bailey and fiancé Chantel Riley of Edwardsville, IL, his mother - Hazel C. Bailey of Lynnville, IN, and five grandchildren - Dawson James and Olivia James, both of Du Quoin, Amanda Woosley and Matthew Woosley, both of Loveland, OH and Andrew Bell of Camarillo, CA.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, March 3, 2017 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Ted Clark officiating.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M., Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to American Cancer Society, Celtic Hospice or Marshall Browning Hospital Tree of Life and will be accepted at the funeral home.
