James M. Eagen, Scranton, died Tuesday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, after a courageous 10-year battle with cancer.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Honorable Michael J. and Helen Fitzsimmons Eagen, he attended parochial grade schools in Jermyn and Scranton. He was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and attended the University of Scranton. He was veteran of the Army and was a graduate of the Army School of Finance in Indiana. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Scranton. Before retirement, he was employed by Lackawanna County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in governmental positions. He was in the hospitality business, and was a music and video contractor.

Surviving are two brothers; attorney Michael J. Eagen Jr. and Jeremiah W. Eagen, M.D.; and a brother-in-law, attorney Thomas J. Foley Jr.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Eagen Foley.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Ave., Scranton. Friends may call at the church from 9 until Mass time.

Interment will be private in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.
