Charles Hugh Jackson KINGSLAND-Charles Hugh Jackson of Kingsland Texas, formerly of Idalou, Texas, went to be with our Lord on Jan. 16, 2017. Charles was born to Curtis and Claudia (Walters) Jackson on April 1, 1930, in Lamb County, Texas. After proudly serving in the United States Air Force, Charles worked for Idalou State Bank, in Idalou, Texas, for over 20 years. After retiring from the bank as president, Charles worked for the Small Business Administration (SBA) in Lubbock. Following several successful years with SBA, Charles went to work for Texas Farm Bureau Insurance. Charles was a member of the Idalou Lion's Club and a member of the Idalou Chamber of Commerce and volunteered for the Idalou Boy Scouts of America. He was the voice of the Idalou Wildcats football games for twenty years. Charles and his wife, Dorothy, retired to the Texas Hill Country in 1994 where he became involved in the Kingsland Chamber of Commerce. Charles enjoyed genealogy and working on fundraisers to help those in need. He was instrumental in having a playground built entirely through donations and volunteer labor in 2005 for the Packsaddle Elementary School in Kingsland. Charles also enjoyed working on the annual Kingsland Aqua Boom Festival. Charles, the unofficial mayor of Kingsland, Texas, was chosen and honored as the 2008 Man of the Year and as Grand Marshall of the Aqua Boom Parade. He became known to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and around Kingsland, Texas, as Papa Jack. Charles is survived by his sons, Stoney Jackson of Lubbock, Texas, Richard Jackson and wife, Jan, of Angleton, Texas, Ron Jackson and wife, Martha, of El Paso, Texas, Tommy Jackson and wife, Angie, of Lubbock, Texas; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Sloan (Caitlin), Ricky, Rachel, Rebecca, Jennifer (Garrett), Kyle (Shavante); his brother, Jimmy Jackson and wife, Jan, of Farmington, NM; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Charles is preceded in death by his parents; the love of his life and wife, Dorothy; his grandsons, Clay Jackson and Justin Jackson; his brother, Calvin Jackson; and his sister, Dixie McDonald. Visitation is planned for today, Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Putnam Funeral Home and Crematory, 145 Texas Avenue, Kingsland, Texas. Funeral Service is planned for Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Putnam Funeral Home Chapel with Military honors by The Highland Lakes Honor Guard. Interment to follow in the Bluffton Cemetery in Bluffton, Texas.
