James A. Campbell, 79, prominent retired farmer of Israel Township and one-time Democratic political leader in Preble county, died Sunday morning in Richmond, Indiana, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Apple. He had been ill four years. A lifelong resident of Preble county, he was at one time chairman of the Preble county Democratic central committee and for a long period was a member of the county board of elections.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lola Brown of Casper, Wyoming, and Mrs. Helen Benford of Detroit, Michigan; four sons, Glen of Camden, Forrest of Green Forks, Indiana, Harold of Jerome, Idaho, and James of Camden, and 15 grandchildren. Services were held in the Fair Haven United Presbyterian church; burial in the College Corner cemetery.
