Freda, 92, of Marshall went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 1, 2017. She was a resident of the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility for two years after experiencing a stroke in 2014.
Freda was born at home in Eckford Township, to James and Genivieve (Bristol) Dowding.

She attended several one room school houses and graduated from Marshall High School in 1943. Freda married LaVern E. Peck on October 23, 1945 in Grabill, Indiana. She attended Wayne State University after high school, earning her RN nursing diploma.

Freda worked at Community Hospital in Battle Creek and also at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall.

Upon graduation from nursing school, she joined her husband, LaVern, in Hawaii where he was serving in the U.S. Navy. Together Freda and LaVern traveled with the Navy from Hawaii to New Jersey, California, Utah, Guam, Illinois, and back to Michigan.

Freda and LaVern made their home in Marshall after LaVern retired from the Navy. Freda was a loving wife, mother, nurse, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a dedicated and talented Nurse and worked in obstetrics, med-surgical and emergency room areas.

She enjoyed flower gardening, especially raising African violets. Freda excelled in several hobbies including knitting, needle point, sewing, crocheting, rug making, and crafts. She also was a prolific reader.

Freda was a member of the West Eckford Missionary Church, worked in the Sunday School Nursery, and was a dedicated Deacon's wife. Freda and LaVern made their winter home in Palmetto, Florida at Jet Park after LaVern retired from the Federal Center in Battle Creek, Michigan in 1979.

Freda is survived by her sons, James (Andrea) Peck of Homer, Michigan, and Lawrence (Lori) Peck of Homer, Michigan; 3 grandchildren, Jacqualine Peck, Jennifer (Andrew) Thompson, and Julie Ann (Doug) Koos; 2 step grandsons, Adam Pratt, and Bryan Face; 7 great-grand children; 2 step-great grandchildren; and sister, Melva Cook of Marshall, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, LaVern; infant children; her parents; brothers, Clare and Kenneth Dowding; and a sister, Nora Kilby.

A Funeral Service to celebrate the life of Freda was at West Eckford Missionary Church, with Pastor David Nicholls officiating. Interment was held at West Eckford Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow the committal service at the cemetery.
