William was 31 at the start of the Civil War. His father, "Colonel" William Curry died about six years prior. Times became difficult for his family as cotton sold for next to nothing. Sharecroppers worked the land but with little monetary success. Not much is known about his life after 1865, but he and his wife were able to stay on the family property for the rest of their lives.

William and his wife Mary May Jemison had seven children. Mary (George) Evans, Margie (Henry) Burt, Pauline (James) Grimes, Lillian Curry, Sally (James) Collins, and William (Margaret) Curry.
