Private First Class Elbert Henry Maxwell was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, PFC Maxwell served our country until February 1st, 1968 in Dinh Tuong, South Vietnam. He was 19 years old and was not married. It was report that Elbert died from burns. His body was recovered. Elbert was born on August 17th, 1948 in Statesville, North Carolina. PFC Maxwell is on panel 36E, line 056 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.
FUNERAL SET FOR SOLDIER: PFC Elbert Henry Maxwell, 19, of Route 8, Statesville, was killed in action in Vietnam on February 1st. A native of Iredell County, he was a son of Mrs Mazzie L Maxwell. He had attended the Unity School system. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are; a brother, James F. Maxwell; and his maternal grandparents, Mr and Mrs Thomas Maxwell of Route 8, Statesville. The body arrived in Statesville this morning. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in the Soldiers Plot in the Belmont Cemetery.
He is the Son of Mrs Mazzie L Maxwell c/o Mary L Colbert, 146 Garfield Street, Statesville, North Carolina.
He served with Bravo Company, 5th Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, "Old Reliables", USARV.
He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, the Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
