Ben is survived by his loving wife, Ruth, living in Palm Desert and son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Susan Servais, living in La Quinta. Ben also had one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Marisa and Charles Knetsch and great-granddaughter, Alexia Knetsch and great-grandson, Krystopher Knetsch.
Ben grew up in Wisconsin and joined the United States Air Force in June 1942 serving for 3 years as an Air Force pilot.
Ben married Ruth Kranz, of Alton, Illinois. Ben and Ruth and their son, Michael moved to sunny California in 1948 where Ben studied radiology and graduated as a radiology technician. Starting his healthcare career at St. Joseph Hospital, Burbank, California as a radiology technician, he advanced to Manager of the Radiology Department and Assistant Administrator of St. Joseph Hospital. He developed the first radiology technician training course in the Sisters of Providence HealthCare System. While there, he, along with his wife, Ruth, formed the first hospital credit union for the Sisters of Providence Healthcare System in 1956. During this time, Ben and Ruth made a second home in Palm Desert Greens, Palm Desert, California in 1976.
After retiring from St. Joseph, Ben and Ruth moved to the Desert full-time. Here Ben worked for Eisenhower Medical Center as a radiology technologist. He had very interesting stories about his many years in the healthcare field. Ben also put many hours in volunteering at the Eisenhower Medical Center and driving for the desert blood bank. All of Ben's family and friends remember him as a wonderful and funny, storytelling gentleman with many corny jokes that always got a laugh. His family and friends remember that probably the most about Ben. Ben is a member of the Sacred Heart Parish.
Ben will be remembered during the regularly scheduled Latin Mass at Sacred Heart Parish on February 10 at 2:30. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ben's honor may be made to the Sacred Heart Parish, 43775 Deep Canyon Road, Palm Desert California. 92206.
