Erroll Warren Felton, better known as "Diggy" to all who loved him, was a vibrant and lively character! He and I came to know each other as teenagers when my family relocated from Indiana to Jacksonville, Florida in June of 1982. At first we hated each other!--(Not Really of course, but we had an antagonistic relationship which later turned into a mutual admiration and respect society!) Anywayz, he was a short, honey-brown skinned, handsome, well built young man who was active in sports, and had started his own "poppin', lockin' and breakin'" group around the neighborhood, with four other guys in the days when the hip-hop movement was in it's infancy, and minus all the negativity related to it today! He was an endless sea of humor, wit and creativity! He designed and crafted his own style of clothing for himself and his group, long before the days of the urban male hip-hop designers like Karl Kani, FUBU, Phat Farm, etc., and was also a very good sketch artist and graphic designer in addition to being fluid, original, and energetic in his dance routines! Some might call that creative genius.
He could've been a great choreographer as well!
An all natural god-given talent! (-:

Just one of the many nameless, faceless, unlimitedly talented young people in urban america who don't have the connections or money, so they never get heard of outside their freinds and family! In his short life time, he got to travel and perform all over the eastcoast though, and was the apple of many a young ladies' eye! He fathered three children..two boys and one girl, whom he took care of, despite the fact that he was not committed to their mothers. He was the brash, but honorable young rogue of a man, and had charm and star quality for days! Tragically though, he began a relationship with a very beautiful, but possessive and emotionally unstable young woman who murdered him in a jealous rage in front of a club where he had just won 1st place in a local talent show (a trip to NYC!)and it rocked our world! I had left Jacksonville earlier that year to pursue my own dreams, and had just signed a record deal. I was coming back home to get him, to move him out west with me, to become a dancer / choreographer for me, and to hopefully begin an entertainment career of his own, when I got the news that he had been murdered!....Devastated can't even describe how I felt! What a tragic loss and waste of talent! (He was only 21!!)
But even though it's been almost 20 yrs now since his death, I keep his memory and vitality alive in my heart, and I also wrote a song about him called "One For The Dig"!! I know he's somewhere loving it! (-:
