Aaron A Witmeyer and his sister, Mary Ann Witmeyer, were both born deaf. Their father, Samuel Witmeyer, had 2 sisters that were born deaf. He was highly admired in the deaf community and lectured and traveled frequently.

Tuesday, Oct 16th, witnessed the marriage at St Andrew's Church, Stamford Conn, of Miss Eliza Lockwood, daughter of Charles G Lockwood, to Aaron A Witmeyer. The service was read by the Rector, the Rev F Windsor Braithwait, and interpreted in signs by the Rev Thomas Gallaudet, D.D. of St Ann's, New York City, the Rev. S. F. Holmes, Rector of Trinity Church, Mount Vernon, being present in the chancel.

Their son, Samuel Lockwood Witmeyer, born 17 Mar 1885, was baptized by Rev Thomas Gallaudet. Samuel was not born deaf.

Aaron Witmeyer died very peacefully at the home of his son in South Norwalk, Ct., February 18, 1910, his death being due to asthma and other complications, aged 69 years, seventeen days. He was sick and unable to do any thing for six months, such a great patient, never complaining, even one word, and happily awaiting for the end. Deceased was born in Manheim, Pa. and educated in the Philadelphia Institution on Broad Street; and like his father was a wheel-wright in trade. He was a resident of Lancaster and Manheim prior to about seventeen years, when with his family, he moved to Stamford, Ct. He was a member of the Episcopal church. He is survived by his wife and son, Samuel, who is a manager of the Biscuit Company. The funeral was held February 21st at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Stamford.
