He immigrated from Ireland with his parents when he was a small child. The family lived first in Hoboken, NJ and were in Braceville, Ohio by 1874.

He married Olive Drennen (1863-1938) in 1881 in Braceville. She remarried James Sheridan in 1909. She is buried here.

He was a teamster at the George Renner Brewery in Youngstown.
