Wendell Essig born on 27 February 1700 in Bern, Switzerland, where he spent his youth, but while yet quite a boy he spent some time mining in Rhine Phals in Germany. He also spent 7 years in the Prussian Army, being one of the imperial body guards. He was also pressent at the coronation of Frederick the Great in 1740. Some time between 1740-1750 Wendell Essig left Switzerland and traveled to the new world (America) arriving in Maryland and then met and married Anne Eve Matte (Anne born in Maryland around 1700-1720). Wendell and his wife Anne then traveled to Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland, and had several children. One of their children being Simon Essig born in December of 1754 in Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland. Sometime between 1765-1775, Wendell, Anne and their children (excluding their son Simon Essig, who was in a settlement out of town on an errand) were killed in an Indian attack along with other town members. Wendell Essig, his wife and childrens corpses were found burning in their cabin.

Not sure if Wendell and his wife and children were buried/ ashes buried or cremated/ ashes scattered.
