He was born September 14, 1934 in St. Paul, MN to Joseph and Lila (Poppe) Bauer. After a few years, the family moved to rural Cornell, WI where they had purchased a small farm where Richard spent most of his youth.

On January 22, 1955, Richard married Eldoris Davis at the Barron County Courthouse in Barron, WI. Richard enlisted in the army in June 1953. Upon completion of his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood he was stationed at Fort Bliss, TX where their first three daughters were born. In 1961, Richard heard the Lord calling him into full-time ministry as a pastor. After Richard’s honorable discharge in July 1961 with the civilian equivalency of Electrical Engineer, he enrolled in college at Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO where he achieved his Graduate in Theology. In 1975, while between churches and living in Chippewa Falls, WI, and working at Uniroyal as an electrician, Richard’s fourth daughter was born. Throughout the years, he has had churches around the Midwest and has continued his education to include Christian Counseling. In 1996 Richard and Eldoris retired in the Colfax area. He traveled most weekends to preach as interim pastor or fill in for vacationing pastors.
