Emma (Yust) Coleman graduated from the Enterprise Normal Academy at Enterprise, KS, and taught music for several years. Carl attended Kansas State University at Manhattan, KS. Carl and Emma operated farms for many years. They also raised Jersey cattle and operated a dairy for several years near Sylvia, KS. Carl held a number of offices on the official board of the Methodist Church in Sylvia, KS, and Emma was the church organist for many years. Both were charter mem­bers of the Sylvia Order of Eastern Star. Carl served as patron several times, and Emma was the organist for several years. Carl was master of the Sylvia Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Wichita Consistory (Scottish Rite Masons). He received the honorary degree KCCH, and he was a district deputy, both in the Consistory.

Mrs. Carl C. Coleman

Lyons - Mrs. Emma D. Coleman, 84, former resident of Sylvia, died Thursday morning at the Lyons Care Home after a short illness.

She was born Oct. 25, 1886 in Sylvia. She was married to Carl C. Coleman July 27, 1910 at Sylvia. He died in 1968.

Member of Sylvia Methodist Church.

Survivors are: sons, F. Monroe, Boise, Idaho; Carol E. Wichita; daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Parson, Wichita; Mrs. Marjorie Vivian, Denver, Colo.; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, Rev. David Trott. Burial will be in Sylvia Cemetery. Friends may call at Quiring Mortuary, Wichita, between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friday or at the church between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Saturday.

A memorial has been established at the Methodist Church, Sylvia.
