Donald Burnet died at his home in California on March 2, 2017 where he was a retired priest of the Diocese of Santa Rosa.

He was born on October 14, 1939 in San Antonio, Texas. He attended St. Mary's Elementary School from 1945 to 1953 and St. Anthony's High School Seminary from 1953 to 1958. After completing two years of Junior College he entered the Oblate Novitiate followed by further studies at Oblate School of Theology culminating in his ordination to the priesthood on December 17, 1966. For the next thirteen years he served in various Province ministries in Texas then as a hospital chaplain in San Antonio, then as Pastor of three missions in Comfort, Seadrift and Port O'Connor, Texas.

In 1979 Father Burnet joined the United States Air Force as a Catholic Chaplain for the next twenty-two years serving in various USAF bases throughout the United States and in Italy until his retirement in 2003 as a Colonel. Since then Father Burnet has served as a priest assisting various parishes in the Dioceses of Sacramento and Santa Rosa, California.

Father Burnet was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Cecilia Burnet and his brother, Father Jerome Burnet OMI.
