GIBBS - Wayne E. Gibbs, 58, 1213 Cedarhurst Dr., Sanford, North Carolina, formerly of North Tonawanda, Monday, (May 19, 1986) as a result of an injury received in an accident.
He was a native of Syracuse, NY.
He was the son of Cora (nee Kimberly) Gibbs and the late Arthur Gibbs; husband of Lois (nee Wenz) Gibbs; two sons, Paul Arthur Gibbs, of Dayton, Ohio and Carl W. Gibbs, of Panama City, Fla.; one brother, the Rev Roy M. Gibbs, of El Paso, Texas; also five grandchildren
A memorial service will be conducted Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Central Baptist Temple in Sanford, North Carolina. Burial will be in the Lee Memory Gardens in Sanford.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church, North Tonawanda, for Wayne E. Gibbs, 58, a former North Tonawandan who was killed Monday in a truck and tractor-trailer crash in Sanford, N.C.
Mr. Gibbs and his wife, Lois, who were long-time members of First Baptist Church in North Tonawanda, moved to North Carolina last December.
A church spokesperson said Mr. Gibbs was driving a delivery pickup truck on a rain-slicked highway when it went out of control and collided with a tractor-trailer. He died en route to a hospital, she said.
Besides his wife, he is survived by sons Paul of Ohio, and Carl of Florida.
Funeral services were conducted this week in North Carolina.
