During WW II He served in the US Naval Reserve. He attended the USNR Midshipman's school at Columbia University and the Naval Mine Warfare School in Yorktown, Va. He served on the USS YMS-36 in the Mediterranean and on the USS Seer (AM-112) in the Pacific.
During his career he worked as a securities analyst in the field of aerospace. He was a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts, the Defense Orientation Conference Association, The Wings Club of New York, and The New England Air Museum.
He had a life long fascination with aviation. At Yale he was a member of the Whiffenpoofs, the Yale Alumni Chorus and the SLOTS. He also sang with the Off Sounders of Greenwich CT. While living in Rye, NY he was a member of the Manursing Island Club and the American Yacht Club and was a parishioner of Christ's Church. In retirement he was a member of St. Ann's Church in Old Lyme, CT.
He is survived by Anne Campbell Clement, his wife of 70 years, and his children Anne Clement Haddad, Jane Campbell Clement, Mary Abbe Clement Stein, Pamela Bush Clement Ianello, Stuart Holmes Clement III, and Charles Soutter Campbell Clement. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Old Lyme CT. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Ann's Church , Old Lyme CT, Groton School, Groton, MA, or Yale University, New Haven, CT.
