Erma Harris, mother of the late humor columnist Erma Bombeck, died from cancer Monday in Phoenix at the age of 89. The Ohio native moved to Sun City. in 1971, following her daughter to the Phoenix area.
Bombeck's columns about the housewife's lot appeared regularly in newspapers across the nation, including The Arizona Republic.
Matt Bombeck described his grandmother as "a very young 89-year-old" who painted, traveled abroad, danced, gambled, published her autobiography and cooked Thanksgiving meals for 40 guests.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Bill Bombeck; grandchildren Betsy, Matt and Andy; and great-granddaughter Eva.
