Dayle D. Althaus, 70, of Shell Lake, died on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, at Indianhead Medical Center, Shell Lake.

He was born on Jan. 30, 1931, to Elmer and Neavy (Schwartkopf) Althaus in St. Paul. He graduated from Robbinsdale High School and then became a corpsman in the Navy, serving in Korea. Following the service he was employed by Northern States Power. He retired after 30 years as a nuclear engineer at Prairie Island, Red Wing, Minn.

Dayle lived in Spooner for eight years and had lived in Shell Lake since 1999.

Survivors include a son, John S. (Deb) of Red Wing, a daughter, Neavy Brown of Minneapolis; two brothers, Elmer (Ruth) of Spooner and Richard (Carol) of Kalispell, Mont.; and one sister, Darlyene (Dean) Yarian of Austin, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Jack.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spooner, with Rev. Timothy Roser officiating.

The family prefers that memorials be given to the Salvation Army.
