"A first class cabinet maker" served apprenticeship in England (in Brockdish, Norfolk); married Frances Wright in 1832 and came to Wentworth Co. Canada where he was a Liberal and a staunch Methodist. (He had a nephew F.W. who came to Canada with him and became a leading citizen of Hamilton particularly as a meat processor.) James had 11 children and 9 of them had children. In Canada, he built scows for the Grand River near York.
