Raymond Arthur "Ray" Monroe passed away on April 19, 2008 at home in Roseville, CA. He was born May 27, 1922 in Greeley, CO., the eighth child of Clyde and Lillie Gordon Monroe .

He served during World War II with the Coast Guard in the Pacific Theater.

After the war he settled in Los Angeles and married Marion Benner. The family moved to Ventura County in 1959, establishing an oil distributorship in Oxnard which he operated with his wife for twenty years.

Ray was a member of the Ventura Trinity Lutheran Church for 38 years, and was also a member of the Ventura Suburban Kiwanis.

Ray enjoyed a lengthy retirement and in 1997 he and Marion moved to Sun City to be near their daughters and families.

Ray is survived by his wife of 59 years and daughters, Chris (Dan) Steiner of Granite Bay and Mary (Peter) Rodman of Davis, grandchildren Jessica and Elizabeth Steiner, Henry and Ray Rodman and step-grandson Halsey Rodman. He is also survived by sisters Lillie Haynes of Eatonville, WA., and Joann Blik of Aliso Viejo, numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Florence Carlson, Eunice Monroe , Jessie Wood, Betty Monroe , and brothers Chester, Woodrow, and John.

Ray will be missed by all who knew and loved him, including his devoted terrier, Rusty.
