A. Earl Mays, 86, of Lancaster, passed away on Monday evening, March 13, 2017 at Luther Acres, Lititz, PA where he had been a guest since December 2016. Born in Londonderry Township, Bedford County, PA, he was the son of the late John Ray and Anna May Sturtz Mays. Earl was the husband of Joan E. Bloom Mays; together they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on June 26, 2016.

Earl graduated from the Potomac State College of West Virginia University and the University of Pittsburgh. A 1956 graduate of Dickinson School of Law, he worked as Associate General Council for Armstrong Cork Co. and then Armstrong World Industries for 33 years until he retired on January 1, 1996. He served with the U.S. Army Reserves. A member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Landisville, he served as an usher, teller, and communion assistant at the church. He was also a member of the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations; the Lancaster County Chapter and the PA Society of The Sons of the Revolution. He was honored for being a 50 year member of the Lancaster County Bar Association. After his retirement, Earl enjoyed taking care of his farm, reading, photography, antiquing, and was an avid Civil and World War II history buff. Earl also loved to dance with the U.S. Amateur Ballroom Dancing Association, polka dancing with the Dutchland Polkateers, and square dancing with the Do Pas O Square Dancers.

Earl will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Joan, his children: Alan E. Mays, companion of Fay Youngmark of Middletown, PA, Nancy E., (Phillip) Newmoyer of Collegeville, PA, and Amy E., (Brian) Jackson of Mechanicsburg, PA, his three grandchildren; Rachel, Rebecca, and Riley Jackson, and several nieces and nephews, including, Ross, Mary Margaret and Lisa. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Edna Mays, Curtis M. and his wife Ethel Mays, Ray Mays and Avalene, and her husband, Russell Evans.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Celebrate his Life at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 85 Brandt Blvd., Landisville, PA on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. JMe Lowden officiating. Interment will be held at Maytown Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. If desired, memorials may be sent in Earl's memory to the church or to the scholarship fund at Penn State University, Dickinson School of Law, 150 S. College St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
