CRASH FATAL TO KALISPELL COUPLE
Three Vehicles Involved In Late Evening Accident
Robert and Josephine Buck, 712 Fifth Avenue E., Kalispell, were killed in a three-vehicle accident at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday a mile north of the U.S. 2-Montana 35 junction.
Buck was killed instantly in the accident. Mrs. Buck died at 8:05 a.m. today at the Kalispell General Hospital. Listed in fairly good condition at the hospital is Dennis McManus, 19, 1519 Fifth Avenue E.
The Montana Highway Patrol recreated the fatality conditions; McManus was southbound on Highway 2. He became involved in a sideswipe contact with Edward Buck, brother of the dead man. This was sufficient to put McManus into a head-on collision course with Robert Buck.

Both drivers were pinned in their vehicles for more than 30 minutes, Porta-power hydraulic equipment carried by the Kallispell ambulance was utilized to free them. Mrs. Buck was thrown out of her car in the crash.
Flathead County Deputy Coroner David O. Cutler is working with the patrol today interviewing witnesses to the accident. Damage was set in excess of $3,000.
Highway 2 was blocked more than an hour until wreckage was cleared. Wreckers hooked onto the door of the Buck vehicle and pulled it off to remove Buck's body. The Creston Volunteer Fire Department truck responded to wash down gasoline and grease and firemen assisted in releasing the drivers.
Also taken to the hospital for check of possible injuries were Mrs. James Hill, 1745 S. Main St., and her daughter, Mrs. Doris Selke. They were not hospitalized.
Authorities said the Buck brothers were traveling in caravan headed for a family outing at Spotted Bear for the holiday. Bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Buck were taken to the Johnson Funeral Home where service arrangements are pending.
The two deaths boost Flathead County's fatality toll for the year to five. Drivers had gone 65 consecutive days without a traffic death.
Whether an inquest will be called by Cutler is still to be determined. [McManus was later charged with involuntary manslaughter]
