Maria Serafina was the daughter of Maria de las Mercedes Rivera y Rodríguez (born 18 Feb. 1844, La Habana) and Narciso Aloy (aka d'Aloi) y Lluit (31 Jul. 1739, Gerona, Spain - 19 Jan. 1794, La Habana) who married at the parish of Espiritu Santo in La Habana on September 1st 1766. Her mother was the daughter of Francisca Vilano Rodríguez y Hernández and Pedro Rivera. Pedro was a native of Motril, Spain.
Serafina was one of four sisters, including María del Rosario Aloy y Rivera who was married to Juan Andrés Poey y Lacasse (parents of Felipe Poey y Aloy, 1799-1891), and Francisca Maria Aloy y Rivera (born 4 Oct. 1777) who was married to Francisco Hernández y Linares (1763-1833).
