William R. (Bill) Freeman Jr. , 90, of Sanford passed away Saturday March 18th, 2017 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC. Bill was born January 12, 1927 in Mecklenburg County to the late William R. Freeman Sr. and Nell S. Freeman. He was a graduate of Matthews High School.

Mr. Freeman was a World War II veteran, Korean War veteran, and retired as a Colonel with over 40 years of service to his country.

Mr. Freeman was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved spending time with his family, playing golf, and reading.

He is survived by two daughters Mary Freeman Eudy of Raleigh, NC and Janice Freeman Atkinson of Hickory, NC; one son, William R. Freeman III and wife Pam of Wendell, NC and a son-in-law James A. Cohn and wife Debbie of Advance, NC; twelve grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Adams Freeman, a daughter Diane Freeman Cohn, and three sisters Katherine Grier, Lillian Knight, and Jane Crisco.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday March 22, 2017 at 1 PM at Miller-Boles Funeral Home Chapel in Sanford with Rev. James A. Cohn officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday March 23rd at 2:30 PM at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte with Rev. James A. Cohn officiating.
