On March 17, 2017, retired Col. Raúl F. Barbará passed away peacefully with his loving wife at his side.

Raúl was born on January 3, 1940, in México City. He came to the U.S. in 1943 with his parents, Raúl and Ana Barbará. His father enlisted in the US Army Air Corps and served 34 years in the U.S. Air Force.

Raúl graduated from the University of Arizona with a law degree and would proudly follow his father's path and serve in the U.S. Air Force as an officer for 29 years, working as an attorney (JAG).

After retiring, he served as a civilian lawyer, working in litigation for 11 years for the DOD.

Raúl is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marylou; and their four children, Ana Lisa Penater and spouse Brian, Maria Slahor and spouse Jeff, Maggie Burnett and spouse U.S. Army Lt. Col. William Burnett, and Raúl Barbará Jr. and spouse Flora. Raúl and Marylou were blessed with eight grandchildren: Eva, Alexis, Christian, Nick, Luke, Layne, Diego, and Ivan. He is also survived by his siblings, Maya Bloch, Gabby Sorensen, and John, and their families; and his brother-in-law, Jorge Bombel and his wife Kathy.

Raul was a loving husband and father who demonstrated his kindness by working hard and encouraging the same of everyone around him. He is remembered for his signature smile and positive attitude, which he never lost.

A memorial will be held at Saint Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg, VA, Saturday, March 25, 2017, at noon. Burial will be at Arlington Cemetery at a later date.
