Happle, John Baptist (Aug. 11, 1811-June 11, 1902 –husband of Sophia Kaus [married Aug. 29, 1842 at Hufingen in Villingen, Baden –Sophia was the daughter of George Kaus and Maria Pfund] –Sophia likely died in Baden – John Baptist them re-married to Carolina Derler [married Feb. 9, 1877 in civil ceremony in Town of Eaton –this marriage was likely due to the birth of Joseph Happle on Feb. 26, 1877, who then died on March 20, 1878 –Caroline was 18 at the time of marriage, while John was 65 –after this marriage, Caroline moved back with her parents –a second son, John George Happle, was born on Sept. 8, 1880] –son of Zyprian Happle and Anna Maria Heimermann –born at Hufingen in Villingen, Baden –arrived in US via New Orleans in Sept. of 1855 with three sons –applied for naturalization on Nov. 3, 1857 –in the 1860 census for the Town of Eaton, John is shown as a mason living in a house with his sons John and Bernard –in 1864 purchased the 80 acres of the E1/2 of the NW1/4 of Section 35, Town of Eaton from the widow Mary Cronin and created a farmstead at 19215 Newton Road–on Oct. 2, 1868 sold the southern 40 acres of this farm to his son John Happle –on Oct. 20, 1869 sold the northern 40 acres of these 80 acres to his son William Happle –from May 12, 1873 to Feb. 18, 1878 owned 6 acres along Church Road in the E1/2 of the SW1/4 of the NW1/4 of Section 25, Town of Eaton –transferred these 6 acres to his wife Caroline, who then sold these 6 acres to John Roemer on Jan. 10, 1879 –on the 1880 census John is shown as a divorced boarder at the house of the widower Anton Fischer at 18908 Baer Road in Section 23, Town of Eaton –on the census records he is shown as being blind –in the 1900 census for the Town of Liberty, John is shown living with the widower John Doerfler in a house in St. Nazianz) –buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz, Town of Eaton [buried in Section 1, Row 17, Lot 7 –no stone –in 2019 the St. Nazianz Area Historical Society placed a marker on this grave] [second marriage record Manitowoc 4-113] [no county death record]
