HEYBURN – Alice LaRee Bringhurst VanLeishout, an 89-year-old former Heyburn resident, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls, with her beloved children at her side.

LaRee was born August 13, 1927 in Buhl, Idaho, the daughter of Royal C. Cheney and Alice E. Larsen Cheney. She married Samuel John Bringhurst on Aug. 6, 1946, in Portland, OR, which union was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1970.

Following Sam’s death in 1990, she married George VanLeishout Nov. 12, 1994, in Rupert, Idaho. She and George lived in Heyburn prior to her recent move to Bridgeview Estates in Twin Falls.

LaRee was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life and she served in many church callings. She also served as director of the Pink Lady auxiliary at Cassia Memorial Hospital and activity director of the Burley Care Center

She loved to draw and she was a skilled gardener, cooking and canning much of her produce.

LaRee is survived by her husband, George; children: Mike (Linda) Bringhurst, of Delta, UT, Ron (Susan) Bringhurst, of Burley, Shari (Steve) Loveless, of Hansen, Terry Bringhurst, of Rupert, Tony (Michelle) Bringhurst, of Modesto, CA, and John (Diane) Bringhurst, of Kimberly; sister, Iona Smith; brothers: Clifford Cheney and Cleo (Pat) Cheney; 23 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Sam Bringhurst.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at the Heyburn 2nd Ward Church, 530 Villa Dr., in Heyburn, with brother Kevin George officiating. Burial will follow in the Rupert Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, March 24, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley and from 1 until 1:45 p.m. preceding the service at the church.
