Arless "Gene" Burgess, 81, Marion, went to be with the Lord at 5:59 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Marion General Hospital. He was born in Barbourville, Kentucky, to the late Clyde and Mary (Partin) Burgess. He married Evelyn McVey on July 30, 1955, and she survives.

Gene was a 1955 graduate of Barbourville High School. He was a die maker at General Motors for 38 years until his retirement. He held memberships at Sunnycrest Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge Jonesboro 109 and was a 32nd degree Mason. Gene was an avid sports enthusiast and played all kinds of sports growing up and won several awards. He coached youth baseball and football and was a UK fan. Above all things, Gene was very active with his family and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Vickie (John) Pearce, Mike (Rachelle) Burgess, and Kelli Burgess, all from Marion; brother, Archie Burgess, Corbin, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Bobbi Burgess, Barbourville; grandchildren, John (Holli) Pearce, Marion, Thomas "Tommy" (Kari) Pearce, Marion, Seth Schwerin, Dallas, Texas, Trevor (Alyssa) Campbell, Marion, Mindy Stone, Marion, Jeremy Burgess, Marion, and Tommy Burgess, Marion; great-grandchildren, Kinzie, Jaycie, Karlie, Evan, Cadence, Ayden, and Gage Pearce; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Arville Burgess.

Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion. Services for Gene will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jim Sexton officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
