OBITUARY.

After being confined to his bed for about 15 months and enduring and (sic) indescribable amount of suffering, Isaac Sargent departed this life on Thursday morning at 3 o'clock, July 30, 1891. About 2 years ago he was take with erysipelas in the foot, and many of the best physicians were consulted, but a cure seemed impossible, and after a long and painful illness death relieved him of his suffering.

Isaac Sargent was born in Windsor county, Vermont, January 18, 1818, where he resided until 1858, when he came to Kansas, locating on Eagle creek in this township. He pre-empted a claim of 160 acres, which he improved and resided on until the fall of 1867, when he removed to a farm in Coffey county which he purchased. He resided on this place until the fall of 1873. the same year he bought thirty acres adjoining Hartford, upon which he resided ever since. He was married to Miss Rebecca Hunt, of Stockbridge, Vermont, in the year 1839, who died in this city in October 1880. He married Miss Julia [Gulia] E. Perkins at El Dorado, Kansas, April 19, 1881. By this last union he became the father of three children, two of whom survive him. He was a member of the M.E. church of Hartford, in which church the funeral services were held, Rev. A.R. Maclean preaching the funeral sermon, after which the remains were interred in Hartford cemetery.

The deceased was one of the pioneer settlers of this county and endured many privations and hardships during the early days of Kansas. He leaves a wife, one little boy and one little girl to mourn the loss of a loving husband and an affectionate and indulgent father, besides hosts of friends, who we join in extending sympathy to the grief stricken family. The last sad rites were attended by a large number of friends.
