Mr. John Garfield Chivers, age 82, of Port Huron, passed away on February 20, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on February 27, 1934, to the late Garfield and Marjorie Chivers in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada.
John's favorite pastime was spending time hunting, fishing, camping and visiting with his children. He was always quick with comeback jokes. John joined the Canadian Navy when he was 17, which was during the Korean Conflict.
John married his first wife Beverly in 1953 and they had 6 children together.
In September, 1966, he moved his family to Port Huron, where he raised his family. John married his second wife, Lula Belle Guenther (also known as Ladybug Judy) in September 1977. He then married his current wife Debra Badgerow on June 4, 1997.
John is survived by his children, Edith Chivers, Donna Stewart, John (Judy) Chivers, Wanda (John) Green, Lynn (Ben) Burtch, David Chivers, stepchildren, Steven (Cindy) Guenther, John (Michelle) Guenther, Martin (Veronica)Badgerow, Albert James (AJ) Badgerow and Shane Badgerow, also, a special adopted daughter, Betty Megill. He is also survived by his siblings, Midge (Lynwood) Ripley, Ernest (Judy) Chivers, and Rick (Dee) Chivers, all from Canada.
He was blessed with 34 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his former wives, Beverly Ann Chivers and Lula Belle Chivers, stepson, Keith Guenther, 1 granddaughter, 2 great granddaughters, his parents, 3 brothers, Sternie Robert Elmer Chivers (36310217), Norman J. Chivers (178244729) and Wesley Chivers and 1 sister, Bernice Metcalfe.
Memorial services will be 3:00 pm Friday, February 24, 2017, in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Avenue, Port Huron. Pastor Drew Mills of Lakeport Wesleyan Church will officiate. Visiting hours will be 2:00 pm until the time of service at 3:00 pm in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice Services in memory of John G Chivers.
