Word has been received here that Mrs. L. A. Holmes, for many years a resident of Table Rock, where her children were born and where her first husband, John N. Gere, is buried, has gone to Honolulu, to be with her sons, Guy and Ned Gere. Guy is suffering from a stomach trouble for which he has undergone an operation and must undergo another in the immediate future.

Mrs. Lydia A. Holmes came up from Kansas City last Friday and will remain over Saturday, to help celebrate her sister's Mrs. Fannie C. Norris, 84th birthday. Mrs. Holmes is a daughter of Elder and Mrs. Giddings, pioneers of Table Rock and her early life was passed amid the scenes of our city before the days of automobiles in this western country, and she learned to ride a horse as well that few of the boys of her day could out-ride her, and for some time she carried mail between here and old Cincinnati- near the present site of DuBois. And say, she says she believes the young men and women of those days got as much kick out of living as do the young people of the present generation, with all the so-called improvements which the years have brought to amuse them.
