Christina M. Peterson, age 69, a resident of Manitowoc, passed away peacefully at her home while surrounded by loved ones on Monday, March 20, 2017 following her courageous battle with cancer.Chris was born on February 12, 1948 in Detroit, MI to the late Clayton and Gladys Brunette Werner. She graduated from Benedictine High School in Detroit with the class of 1966. On July 8, 1967, Chris married Paul K. Peterson in Calumet, MI. He preceded her in death on October 4, 2012. In 1984, Chris completed her education by obtaining her degree in nursing from Lakeshore Technical College. Chris was employed for many years at Holy Family Home Care. After retiring from full time employment, Chris was a foot care clinic nurse for Holy Family Home Care. She ended her nursing career in 2015 working for Home Care Health Services and Hospice as their foot care nurse. Chris' true calling was nursing because of the care she was able to provide to people and the connections she made with her patients. Her true joy in life was her five grandsons. She loved spending time with them at their campers in Devil's River, vacations to Michigan's Upper Peninsula, cheering them on at the basketball games and swim meets, or just hanging out and being their grammy. Survivors include Chris' daughter, Heidi (Paul) Simonar, Manitowoc; five grandsons, Mathew, Michael, Daniel, David and John; sister, Ginger (Mike) Bahrman, Denver, CO; brother, Clayton Werner, Lawton, OK; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Chris was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Paul; parents, Clayton and Gladys Werner; and two sisters, Rochelle and Sharlene.A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home with Deacon Rich Bahnaman officiating. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel.
