MRS. KATHARINA HARMS DIES; WAS OLDEST AT CHRIST CHURCH

Mrs. Katharina Harms, 96, longtime Washington township resident, died early Friday at Floyd Valley hospital, after a brief illness.

She was taken to the hospital by the Luken-Johnson ambulance from her farm home two hours earlier.

She was born April 14, 1872, in Germany and came to the United States at age 13. She has since resided near Le Mars. Her marriage to John J. Harms took place Feb. 2, 1894, at her home.

Funeral services are tentatively set for Monday at Christ Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the cemetery under direction of the Luken-Johnson funeral home.

Mrs. Harms was the oldest member of the Christ Lutheran congregation and was a charter member of the ladies aid.

Survivors are five sons, Carl, Fred and Alfred of Le Mars; Clarence, of Hawarden; Donald, Linn Grove; four daughters, Mrs. Herman (Meta) Eilers, Sioux City; Mrs. George (Kathryn) Carstensen, Le Mars; Mrs. Hans (Theresa) Engel, Terrill and Hilda at home; 20 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who died July 29, 1931, and a son.
