Ronald, 77, of Marshall, passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at his home, in the loving care of his family on Thursday, March 23, 2017.

Reverend Hackworth was born to James Elliott and Stella (Marshall) Hackworth. The Hackworth family roots can be traced back to 1740 there, where they appear on the tax rolls. His family moved from Kentucky to Branch County when he was 2 years old. Ron grew up there graduating from Quincy High School in 1958.

He loved sports and was on his high school football team. He then enrolled in Spring Arbor Methodist College from where he graduated in 1960.

He started sharing the Gospel by evangelizing when he was 18 years of age, traveling across Oklahoma and Texas after receiving his license to preach. After graduation from Spring Arbor in 1960, he moved to Livingston, Texas where he pastored.

He also attended Sam Houston's Teachers College. He earned his ministerial credentials at the age of 20, and was ordained at 22 years old by the United Pentecostal Church while pastoring the Adrian United Pentecostal Church.

From 1966 to 1968, he pastored the United Pentecostal Church in McAllister, OK. Then he moved back to Michigan to serve a United Pentecostal congregation in Lansing. After six months, he was called to return to doing the Lord's work by evangelizing across the country until February of 1969. At that time he returned to the pulpit to pastor a church in Livingston, Texas.

Reverend Hackworth was called back to Lansing in May of 1970 to serve a United Pentecostal Church there, until October of 1972. He returned to evangelizing and served on the Albion Christ Apostolic Church staff as their Outreach Director until 1976. In March of that year he went to Arkansas to pastor the Crystal Hill United Pentecostal Church until 1983. He returned to Michigan to Escanaba to pastor the United Pentecostal Church in that community. In November of 1986, he fulfilled a promise to his wife Nora by moving to South Carolina, the state Nora had called home for many years. In May 1988 they moved back to Michigan to Marshall to evangelize, and founded the Marshall United Pentecostal Church.

He married Nora E. Cooper Carter on November 9, 1974 in Conway, South Carolina. They were married by Nora's oldest brother, also a United Pentecostal minister. They have proven to be great life partners, serving Jesus Christ together and being their family's pillars these many years.

He loved traveling and was truly an adventurous man. He still was quite a sports fan! He loved time with all of his family, something he treasured.

Reverend Hackworth kept a faithful habit of studying his religion, and was very dedicated to that throughout his life.

Surviving are his beloved wife Nora; daughters Kellee R. (Dana) Densmore of Niles, Virginia L. (Sam) Billingsley of Dowagiac, and Kimberlee L. (James) Miller of Weidman, Michigan; sons Ronald George Hackworth of Dowagiac, and James E. (Lauren) Hackworth of Marshall; 12 grand children and 7 great-grandchildren; his sisters Joline Yeager of Scott, ARK and Nora E. (Don) Russell of Tekonsha; brother Don (Margaret) Hackworth of Cabot, AR; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his siblings James T., Jimmie, Harold, Aldine, Marveline, Betty, Gaynale, Jack, Bonnie Jean and Richard.

Funeral services celebrating his fruitful life and honoring his Lord and Savior, will be held on Monday, March 27 at Christ Apostolic Church in Albion.
