Mary R. Knutson was born September 8, 1878, at ELmore, Ohio. She spent her girlhood days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.F. Dupuis at Elmore.
On May 17, 1902 she was married to Walter E. Gaughan of Toledo, Ohio. To this union was born three children, Lucille, Carleton and Lawrence. In February 1907, she was left alone with her three small childdren by the death of her husband.

In the spring of 1909 she came to Montana with her three children, to make her home. On March 6, 1912 she became the wife of Severt A. Knutson of Crane and three children came to bless this marriage, of which two are living, Alice and Marion.

She was ever faithful as a wife and mother, always looking to the welfare of her children. On July 19, 1923 she was taken ill and peacefully passed away August 14.

Home services were held at Crane and church services at Savage, Interment was made in the Savage cemetery.

She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, Severt Knutson of Crane, five children, Lucille, Carleton and Lawrence Gaughan, Alice and Marion Knutson, her mother Mrs. C.F. Dupuis, a sister Mrs. Andrew Peterson, and two brothers, G.G. Dupuis and Charles Dupuis.
