Shrewsbury - Dorothy (Donnelly) Abbott, 90, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2017 at UMass Medical Center in Worcester, MA.
She was born October 12, 1926, in Watertown MA, the only child to Lawrence and Olive (Winch) Donnelly. For 61 years, Dorothy was the beloved wife of Dr. George Wells Abbott until his death in 2009. She attended Jackson College for Women (Tufts University), but left before she graduated to marry George.
Dorothy married George W. Abbott in 1947 and resided for many years in Grafton, MA, where she and Dr. Abbott raised their family. Many happy years were also spent living in Little Compton, RI. In retirement, they moved to Ithaca, New York for the past 21 years and were actively involved with Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dorothy was an avid reader who enjoyed gardening, bird watching, needlepoint, knitting, and quilting. She had a deep love of animals. Dorothy traveled extensively with her husband and often enjoyed her birthdays in exotic places. She was a devoted Patriots football fan.
She is survived by her five children: Karen Abbott and her husband Richard Fisher of Manassas, VA; George Abbott Jr. and his wife Sharon (Priano) of Geneva, N.Y.; Dwight Abbott and his wife Janice (Manna) of Summerville, SC; Robin Burwick and her husband David of Millbury, MA; Kim Brown and her husband Jim Geraghty of Sudbury, MA.
Loving and devoted grandmother to Anna Jen Abbott, Amelia Abbott, Christopher Abbott, Courtney Antonuccio, Michaela Abbott, Jeffery Burwick, Kaitlin Filo, Alyssa Brown, and Lindsay Brown. Great-grandmother to Briella Antonuccio and MacIntyre Filo. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law Robert M. Abbott of Charlotte, NC and Dr. Richard J. Abbott of Moultonborough, N H., and several nieces and nephews.
She is greatly missed by her cherished and constant poodle companion, Brady.
A private family service will be held at a later time.

ACTON - The Board of Selectmen voted last Tuesday evening not to reappoint Richard McCabe Town Counsel....Mr. Mcabe served as Selectmens Counsel for four years, taking office in 1960 when Lawrence Donnelly, Charles MacPherson, and the late Arthur Lee were selectmen, succeeding John Sheehan, previous Counsel.
