Michael (Spike) Leonard, age 67, of Menominee, MI was reunited with his loving wife on the afternoon of December 24, 2016, after a courageous battle with ALS. Spike was born in Chicago, Ill., on January 27, 1949, to George Leonard and Ruth Hill.
As a young boy, Spike moved to Marinette, WI where he graduated from, and spent the rest of his days in the area, leaving only for three years to proudly serve his country during the Vietnam War.
In 1982, he married the love of his life, Sheryl Borden. They spent the next 30 years enjoying life together while raising their daughter, Shanna. Spike lived by the words “just enjoy life” and that’s exactly what he did. From natural beauty to watching his grandson play, Spike enjoyed everything he saw. He loved to talk to people and always had a story to tell. He was an avid bowler, in his younger days, and a lover of crossword puzzles. Spike spent over 20 years as a chemical operator at Specialty Chem until his retirement in 2013.
Spike is survived by his only daughter, Shanna Leonard (Matthew Gustafson); a grandson, Spencer Gustafson, and baby on the way; his mother, Ruth Rose; his younger brother, Jerry (Cathy) Binder (Sterling, Ill.); brother and sister-in-law, David and Pam Borden; and special friends, Stephanie and Doug Guay; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Sheryl Leonard; and his father, George Leonard.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home in Marinette. Military honors will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home by the Military 20 Year Club.
