Irene M. Attleson, 90, died Sunday, March 19, 2017, in Golden Valley, Minn., at Colonial Acres Health Care Center. Irene was a dedicated follower of Christ Jesus and served her family, friends and neighbors in the name of her Savior.

She is survived by her daughter, son in law, daughter-in-law, four grandchildren, and sister and brother in law. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley M. Attleson, in 2004; son, Peter J. Attleson, in 2010; sisters, Josephine Svedin and Norma Boomgarden; and bothers, Harvey, Harold, Vernie and Bernard.

Irene Mae Attleson, the daughter of John and Tillie (Loger) Boomgarden, was born Nov. 5, 1926, in Woden, Iowa. Growing up and helping on the family farm, Irene attended Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa, and taught in the area. Irene studied at Lutheran Bible Institute in Golden Valley, Minn., and received her teaching degree at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. After graduating, Irene taught first grade in New Hampton, Iowa, where she met her sweetheart, Stanley Attleson, when he stopped at her boarding house to sell tickets for a church pancake breakfast. Irene and Stanley were married on Jan. 5, 1958. They lived and raised their family in Charles City, Iowa. Stanley worked at First Security Bank, and Irene worked at Jefferson Elementary School. Irene taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School at St. John's Lutheran Church, where they were members for many years. Irene and Stanley served together in the Gideon's International Ministry. They retired and moved to Rochester. Irene enjoyed baking, sewing, walking, bike riding, family hikes and traveling with Stanley. She always had a cookie or dessert ready to serve family and friends.

Irene's service will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 24, Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel, 5000 W. 50th St., Edina, MN 55436. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel, 952-920-3996.
