Born in Spartanburg, sc, he was the son of the late Rev. J.W. and Edna King. While serving as a 2nd Lt. in the US Air Force, he was noted as the Youngest Graduate of Officer Candidate School in SC. Rev. King attended Clemson University and Newberry College where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, minoring in Personnel Management. He is also a graduate of Liberty Bible Institute. Rev. King pastored numerous churches during his 56 years of ministry including Cartoogecheye Baptist Church of Cartoogecheye, NC, Welcome Baptist Church (Laurens), founding pastor and charter member of Wayside Baptist Church (Laurens), Turkey Creek Baptist Church (Ware Shoals), and retired from New Beginning Baptist Church (Waterloo). Rev. King was also a respected Christian business owner in Waynesville, NC and Laurens, SC for over 55 years. Rev. King loved sharing God’s Word, spending time with his family and friends, and enjoyed going fishing.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Linda, are daughters, Kimberly King-Smith (Mike) and Jacinta King Richey (Chad); son, Jack E. King, Jr.; grandchildren, Michael Taylor (Sara), Michaela Smith, Dustin, Callie and Colton Richey, Sierra, Jake and Carson King; great-grandchild, his “Pretty Girl”, Claire Joan Taylor; grandson (on the way), Hughes Michael Taylor; brother, Joel King (Ann); sister, Janice Quattlebaum (James); and numerous nieces and nephews.
