HOOVER, Ala. -- John David Crow Jr., a former Alabama running back and son of the National Football League great, was struck by a car and killed Saturday. He was 39.
Mr. Crow was trying to retrieve a hubcap that had fallen from his truck on Interstate 65 in Hoover when he was hit, authorities said.
Mr. Crow played at Alabama from 1975 to 1977 under coach Paul ''Bear'' Bryant.

CROW, JOHN DAVID JR. age 39, of Birmingham, died September 10, 1994. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama where he played football for the University under Coach Bryant from 1973 until 1977. He was an active member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church. He lived in the Birmingham area for 16 years. He was the son of John David Crow, Sr., Coach Bryant's only Heisman Trophy winner.
Visitation will be Monday, September 12, at Jefferson Memorial South from 5:30 until 8:00. Funeral service will be Tuesday, September 13, at 11 a.m. at Shades Mountain Baptist Church with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens South.
Survivors: wife, Janice Crow; daughters, Christa Crow and Sarah Beth Crow, both of Hoover; parents, Mr. and Mrs. John David Crow of College Station, Texas; sisters, Anna Lisa Stenklyft of Tyler, Texas, and Jeannie Crow of Dallas, Texas; mother-in-law, Lois Lamon of Birmingham; grandmother, Velma Crow of Woodville, Texas.
